MONTGOMERY – The Alabama Public Library Service (APLS) is pleased to announce the recent hire of Jessica Everingham serving as the department’s assistant director to manage the agency’s day-to-day operations. She arrives at APLS with 16 years of relevant library experience across a variety of settings.
Everingham joins APLS after most recently serving as the library director for the West Georgia Regional Library System. She previously served as Okefenokee Regional Library System’s director and as the director of library services at Altamaha Technical College in Jesup, Ga. In addition, Everingham has more than three years of state library experience serving as an assistant state librarian for the Georgia Public Library Service.
APLS Director Nancy C. Pack said, “Jessica’s wealth of experience and knowledge makes her a key addition to the APLS family. I’m confident that she will be instrumental in leading the charge to provide leadership, guidance, and support to ensure Alabama’s local public libraries continue to succeed.”
Among Everingham’s first projects at APLS is developing a coordinated continuing education training program for Alabama’s public libraries, including training for new public library directors, grant writing training, library collection development, and collection weeding. Everingham said that continuing education is crucial to running an effective library, and it is paramount to provide our state’s public libraries with a complete set of tools and resources.
“In a world proliferated by disinformation and fake news, it’s important to note that libraries aren’t going anywhere. We’re here to stay,” Everingham said. “Librarians are highly-trained and professional sources of accurate and reliable information you can trust. Free and open access to information is the central mission for every library, and libraries are more relevant now than ever as they serve as places to help navigate the information age.”
The Alabama Public Library Service is the state agency whose mission is to provide information services to all citizens, local public libraries, and state employees.
