Extensive reference, professional development, and Alabamiana collections are available to state employees and public library staff. The bibliographies on this page are just a sampling of the materials available to check out. Remember to check our catalog for other items of interest!
Books for Alabama’s Bicentennial Celebration. This list is intended to give library patrons an overview of recently published Alabamiana available for borrowing at APLS. Preference is given to books published in the last ten years, historically significant works by Alabamians or about Alabama, and award-winning Alabama authors and books.
Core Collection Development and Readers’ Advisory Resources. No librarian has time to read and review every book in print. That’s why APLS recommends using expert collection development and readers’ advisory resources to guide your work in these fundamental areas.
Alabama Library Advocacy. This LibGuide consolidates important advocacy information including how to use Capwiz to find and contact your local state legislators and how to use ALISON to search for legislative information.
Library Programming. Whether for seniors, adults, teens, or children, library programming brings people together for learning and fun. Programs also highlight the library’s centrality to our communities: they are often the only public spaces where people from all walks of life can meet, exchange ideas, and discover new things with their peers. These materials are available from APLS and will help you plan library programs.
Please contact the APLS reference department if you are interested in checking out any of our materials.
