New officers for the APLS Board of Directors were elected at today’s Executive Board Meeting. Angelia Stokes, representing District 2, will serve as board chair, and Ron Snider, from District 1, will serve as vice chair for the upcoming fiscal year.
The APLS Board of Directors consists of seven members, one from each U.S. Congressional District. Board members are appointed by the governor and confirmed by the Alabama Senate.
Other board members include Adam Thompson, District 3; Bobbie Lou Leigh, District 4; J. Elbert Peters, District 5; Virginia Doyle, District 6; and Nancy G. Sewell, District 7. Doyle previously served as board chair for the last two fiscal years.
At the meeting, Thompson was also confirmed to serve another term on the board as representative for Alabama's 3rd Congressional District.
The Alabama Public Library Service is the state agency that serves all citizens of Alabama through more than 220 public libraries in all 67 counties and provides direct services to state employees and persons with disabilities through the Regional Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped.
