Gov. Kay Ivey announced on Oct. 16 that Alabama had successfully concluded its Alabama Counts! 2020 U.S. Census campaign with a 99.9 percent household response rate. Of the households counted, 63.5 percent were self-responding, a one percent improvement over the last census. While the self-response improved slightly, it still fell well short of its 75 percent self-response rate set by state and local leaders.
The count officially concluded Oct. 15 after the U.S. Census Bureau extended the census deadline by several days.
